Indeed, in today’s highly intelligent industry, modular production forms can not only adjust the product design at any time, but also maximize the integration of existing resources, technologies and production of car companies. The significance is still obvious.

In addition to foreign brands, domestic automobile brands actually have many architectural concepts, among which CMA architecture is widely spread. There is no other reason for this. It was born in CEVT (Automotive Technology Center), led by Volvo, and jointly developed by Volvo, with a basic modular architecture … It must be said that the technology from the "joint venture" at this stage is indeed more attractive.

The architecture of CMA, what is its kernel?

Unlike Geely’s other SPA (Volvo Technology), BMA (Fully Independent Technology) and PMA (New Energy Technology) architectures, the CMA architecture released in 2016 was jointly developed by Geely and Volvo, which means that not only Geely brand will use this architecture for production, but Volvo will also use this technology architecture for production (although this platform is more subdivided, there are also differences among Geely, Ke Ling and Volvo.

Technically speaking, the biggest feature of CMA architecture is that the distance from the center line of the front axle to the accelerator pedal is fixed, and other dimensions, including length, width, height and wheelbase, can be changed (similar to Volkswagen MQB platform). This highly flexible and extensible architecture can cover the development needs of different models and provide shared solutions including technology, tool chain, standards, process flow and supply chain system for vehicles on different platforms. Geely’s first CMA factory visited this time is located in Hangzhou Bay, Ningbo. This brand-new factory, covering an area of more than 1000 mu, has four processes: stamping, welding, painting and final assembly. The stamping workshop adopts two fully enclosed 100% automatic five-sequence stamping production lines, and four high-precision blue-light measuring robots in the production lines can detect the working error within 0.05mm; There are 395 KUKA robots in the welding workshop, which adopt the most advanced welding technologies in the industry, such as laser deep penetration welding, automatic stud welding, Aparthas welding and so on. German DURR robot is widely used in painting workshop to realize painting automation, and a very advanced carton dry paint mist capture system is provided. The assembly workshop has an integrated chassis assembly process, and the digital tightening tool can tighten 52 points at one time to ensure the integrity of the vehicle chassis, which is really helpful to improve the chassis texture.

Generally speaking, thanks to the breakthrough of new production line technology in control and monitoring, CMA architecture can reach a higher level in quality, such as R angle of stamping parts, stamping accuracy, gap error accuracy of opening and closing parts, chassis sound insulation, chassis assembly and electric torque tightening error accuracy. It can easily reach the height that traditional automobile production lines can’t reach.

Of course, this is also the level that many car companies with intelligent production lines can reach, and it is the progress brought by technology (technical design is very important, but it is more important to have money to buy high-end production equipment). It is worth mentioning that the highly intelligent CMA workshop has largely freed the staff from the "dirty, chaotic and poor" environment of the traditional machinery manufacturing industry. But in the details of the alarm when the production line stops, the workshop staff can even set their favorite music. This clean and humanized working environment is surprising.

GCPA-101 standard, what is its significance and use?

People who know Volkswagen better may have heard of Odit evaluation system (evaluators evaluate the quality of products through sampling from the user’s point of view, and put forward suggestions and directions for improvement). This test standard, which has been used since 1970, has always given the public a strict guarantee of product quality and user experience.

However, Geely has also developed a similar evaluation system-GCPA-101 standard under the framework of CMA. According to the official explanation, this evaluation system combines China people’s demands for automobile products and evaluation criteria of customer satisfaction, such as comfort, sound insulation performance, material texture and so on. What domestic consumers pay attention to is very helpful for producing models suitable for domestic users.

As for the actual effect of this evaluation system, the details of the above evaluation system (seat adjustment logic, volume adjustment habits, conciseness of tailgate labels, etc.) were optimized after visiting Xingyue models. ), we find that this internal self-evaluation mechanism can really produce positive results. After all, producers and users are two completely different groups. In the production stage, from the user’s point of view, it is true that many details are unreasonable.


As a person who has been exposed to the production of automobile workshop, the CMA factory exhibited by Geely really gave me some unexpected feelings. The noisy, chaotic and dirty workshop production environment in my memory has never appeared here. Instead, it is a quiet and regular workshop atmosphere and a highly intelligent robotic arm production line. I think this is the standard and performance that industrial production should have.

However, it is a pity that almost all the machinery and equipment in the workshop come from Germany, which has a strong industrial base. When can I use the domestic machinery production line to produce domestic cars? It’s a matter of time.
